50 Handwoven Thanksgiving Potholders at Hampden Food Pantry, Baltimore, MD!

The Hampden Neighborhood Food Pantry in Baltimore, MD serves up to 50 families at Thanksgiving by providing two bags of food and a seemingly limitless selection of breads and tasty sweets.

Arriving a little early allowed me to get set up before there was a line. This pantry is family run. Everyone is warmly welcomed with a hearty hello and friendly conversation . If you, dear reader/weaver, remember that vintage TV show theme song that goes something like this “… where everybody know your name …” well, that song describes the community feel of Hampden Food Pantry, Baltimore.

Potholders were lined up on a table for people to chose their own color and design. Oh, the love! Some shared stories of making, or attempting to make potholders as children. One person shared the delight that she and her friends enjoyed when making and attempting to sell potholders as children. They went door to door selling in the neighborhood without much success. Still, the fond memories were recalled this year with the opportunity to select a brand new work of art.

And in the end … the potholders brought smiles, a glint in the eye, fond memories, a little hope, and hugs of thanks.

THANK YOU, Thanksgiving Weavers, for sharing your kindness!
