412 Handwoven Thanksgiving Potholders at ACTC, Towson, MD!

The Assistance Center of Towson Churches (ACTC) in Towson, MD serves about 3,000 families at Thanksgiving by distributing 2 bags of food and one turkey or gift card to each family. These pictures represent one of several locations served by ACTC.

This is our first year with ACTC. When helping with distribution at smaller locations I hand out potholders to each family and in return hear a story or am able to experience the recipient’s response. I share those stories for the weavers to know how much of an impact their work makes. With so many people lined up and waiting at this location there truly wasn’t time for that type of interaction. Instead, volunteers led by Meghan, the Director of Thanksgiving, placed 412 potholders in bags. I helped with placement and took pictures. Here are my favorite pics and observations of the day, the smiles, the work, the patience, collaboration, and above all, the kindness.

ACTC distribution at Trinity church in Towson, MD offers two options for people to pick up their food: Drive thru or Walk-up. The image with the truck in it shows the set-up for drive-thru. As cars drive past the table, they are loaded with bags and a turkey. A steady stream of long carts are used to deliver food bags to both stations. A Radio Flyer wagon was used to move turkeys from the white truck to the walk-up area. Friendly, attentive, dedicated volunteers work well together to keep the lines moving and tables well stocked. Distribution at this location takes place over 2 days. Wow!
